Dear government (local, state or federal) employee, if the person speaks Portuguese, Italian, French (and other romance languages) and you hear the interpreter trying to inform the client that they will be called back with an interpreter in their language, it does not mean that the interpreter speaks that language, interpreter is trying to avoid confusion and giving a general idea to the limited English speaker that it is an important call and they will get called back with an interpreter in their language.
Dear caller if you need to call a limited English speaker and the interpreter ask you “How would I announce you?”, please don’t get angry at the interpreter. Usually when you call a regular client in English you have a proper way of announcing yourself to the client; IE. I am Person calling from Place may I speak with Client; the same applies with your limited English speaking client.
